Mavka

LEGEND
It’s said that Mavka is born where death meets an unfinished feeling — in a place where a maiden’s soul couldn’t move on because something held her to the earth: a vow, pain, betrayal, or love that did not survive to its spring.
Mavka was called “the Forest Unreleased”, “the Shadow of Love”, and “the Chosen by the Moon”, because she comes only at night, when silence grows thick and heart wounds become louder.
She’s both beautiful and frightening at the same time.
Her hair is branches and grass that remember everything they have touched.
Her eyes are sparks of what remains unfinished.
Her touch is like the coolness of memories that want to return.
She doesn’t always harm — sometimes she saves the lonely and the lost.
But there’s another Mavka: one who pulls you into her embrace, wanting to take you “forever,” because she herself cannot let go.
She comes to those who:
— Are stuck in their feelings;
— Cannot let go of the past;
— Seek love while forgetting love for themselves;
— Desire warmth where it no longer exists.
She’s a symbol of passion, dependence, obsessive thoughts, mania, and unhealthy attachment, masked as devotion.
As the folk say:
“Don’t follow Mavka — she leads not with the heart, but with the wound.”
CARD MEANING
UPRIGHT POSITION
Short meaning:
Unfinished love, obsessive emotions, dependence, mania, dangerous passion, emotional trap.
Extended meaning:
In the upright position, she indicates strong feelings that control you instead of your own will.
This is love or passion that fully captivates, but at the same time can be destructive.
It may signify:
— Unhealthy attachments;
— Love that hurts more than it heals;
— A partner who pressures or manipulates;
— Relationships that keep you on a hook;
— Fanatical desire, mania, obsession;
— Belief in words rather than real actions.
This card warns that feelings can take you too deep, and you risk losing yourself if you don’t engage your mind.
In relationships — a powerful but dangerous emotional vortex.
At work — dependence on a situation or person, obsessive ideas, fixation on a single option.
In spirituality — false temptations, escape into illusions instead of truth.
Mavka says:
“Love is power. But when it controls you instead of you controlling it — it’s a trap.”
REVERSED POSITION
Short meaning:
Freedom from dependence, insight, release of the past, healing, clarity in emotions, and return of control.
Extended meaning:
In the reversed position, she loses power — you break free from the influence of whatever (or whoever) held you tightly.
This indicates that:
— You finally see the truth;
— You stop believing words and start observing actions;
— You exit toxic relationships or dependencies;
— You break obsessive patterns and regain control over your life;
— You heal from emotional trauma;
— You reclaim your sanity and control.
In relationships — the end of unhealthy attachments.
At work — freedom from manipulators, letting go of draining ideas.
In spirituality — discarding illusions, cleansing the heart.
The card says:
“You have reclaimed yourself.”
