LEGEND

The Black Dragon is the embodiment of offense, destructive power, and primal decisiveness. According to old legends, it awakens only when the world stands on the brink of a great battle — external or internal. Its breath scorches the earth, and its roars can be heard for miles.

In folk tales, it was called:
“The One Who Goes Before the Battle,”
“Thunder in Black Scales,”
“Shadow of Attack.”

Its appearance was always a sign:
either you attack, or you’ll be attacked literally the next second.

It’s a spirit that knows no hesitation. It moves only forward, destroying everything in its path. It asks no permission, stops for nothing, compromises nothing. It appears to the one who stands on the edge — when there’s nowhere left to retreat.

In legends, they said:
“When the roar of the Black Dragon is heard — it’s either your beginning or your end.”

CARD MEANING

UPRIGHT POSITION

Short meaning:

Offense, attack, decisive action, confrontation, need for strength, fearlessness, and immediate response.
You must attack, or you’ll be attacked soon.

Extended meaning:

In the upright position, it’s a card of action, battle, conflict, and strength of spirit. It signals that the situation no longer tolerates waiting or hesitation.

You are required to:
— act;
— respond;
— fight;
— not retreat or give up.

These are cards of battles — personal, professional, and internal.
Something or someone “with teeth” is moving toward you. But the card also indicates that if you stand your ground, it opens great opportunities.

This may be:
— a competitor;
— an enemy;
— a difficult situation;
— the pressure of circumstances;
— someone who wants your place, resource, or energy.

The Black Dragon says:
“Time to stand firm. No escape. Only decisiveness.”

In relationships — conflict, clash of personalities, need to set boundaries.
At work — competition, battle for position, major challenges.
In internal life — overcoming fears, personal demons, a tough decision that must be made.

This is a card of struggle, which will either make you stronger or break you if you don’t show courage.

REVERSED POSITION

Short meaning:

Retreat, avoidance of conflict, weakness, flight, unwillingness to act, missing the moment, capitulation.

Extended meaning:

In the reversed position, the Black Dragon indicates that you’re avoiding a necessary battle. You may:
— retreat when action is required;
— fear what must be overcome;
— delay your response;
— lose strength or will;
— allow the enemy to advance without resistance;
— surrender.

It’s a sign of weakness, indecision, and loss of spirit.
Where you should have said “no,” you remain silent.
Where you should have fought, you hide.

If you don’t fight, the loss will be catastrophic; you may lose something valuable. The card calls you to action.

In relationships — avoiding important conversations, “passive surrender.”
At work — missing the chance to assert yourself, yielding to competitors, or in a weak position.
In spirituality — fear of your own inner dragons.

This card says:
“You chose shadow instead of attack. If you don’t gather yourself — you’ll be swept away.”
