The Serpent

LEGEND
In old legends, the Serpent wasn’t only a creature of the deep forests but also an embodiment of hidden malice, poisonous intentions, and revenge that simmers in silence. It was called:
— “The One That Creeps Behind,”
— “Poisonous Whisper,”
— “Dog-Headed Tunneler” (because it acted stealthily and struck only when certain of its prey).
Legends said that the Serpent doesn’t attack first… it waits until it senses weakness or a wound in another’s heart. It reacts to betrayal, conflicts, old grievances, unspoken anger — and feeds on them.
It appears when someone around you harbors evil intentions, or when there’s poison within your own heart seeking an outlet. Its appearance is always a sign that something dangerous, insidious, and painful is in the air.
Old witches said:
“If you see the Serpent — it means either someone is preparing a strike for you, or you already carry poison within yourself.”
CARD MEANING
UPRIGHT POSITION
Short meaning:
Deceit, poison, danger, ill intentions, betrayal, revenge, hidden strike, and personal conflict.
Extended meaning:
In the upright position, the Serpent symbolizes a dangerous person or situation that may harm you. This isn’t accidental danger — it’s someone’s conscious intent to cause pain.
It manifests as:
— betrayal;
— behind-the-back intrigue;
— the desire to “sting” someone;
— jealousy, grudges, revenge;
— toxic relationships;
— hidden conflict brewing for a long time.
This card is a warning: someone may act against you or already is. This particularly concerns personal connections — family, friends, romantic partners, or work relations.
In relationships — deceit, lies, betrayal, and manipulation.
At work — undermining, competitors, attempts to harm, setting traps.
Psychologically — anger that poisons your heart and requires cleansing.
If you have entertained harmful thoughts or wished harm on someone, then the card urges you to abandon such actions. They’ll bring nothing good and only corner you further.
This card says:
“Look closely. The poison is already near.”
REVERSED POSITION
Short meaning:
Neutralization of threat, truth revealed, cleansing, end of deceit, healing, reconciliation, absence of betrayal.
Extended meaning:
Reversed, the Serpent indicates that the danger is passing or has already lost its power. Someone who intended harm has proven powerless, or their plans are exposed and unravel. The poison disappears, and the conflict is cleansed.
It can signify:
— exposure of lies or treachery;
— reconciliation after a quarrel;
— cleansing from negative emotions;
— end of intrigues;
— cessation of jealousy, anger, grudges;
— severing ties with a toxic person.
In relationships — openness, honesty, and the return of integrity.
At work — neutralization of enemies, victory over intrigues, clarity.
Spiritually — cleansing the heart from anger, ending toxic states.
This card says:
“The poison loses its power. You’re emerging from darkness.”
