The Hare

LEGEND
According to the olden healers, when the forest loses its calm and the moss begins to smolder on its own, the Hare appears. In ancient times, it was believed that this isn’t entirely a beast — it’s the spirit of places where too much fear has been poured.
Once, it was an ordinary hare that fled from hunters into a sacred grove. There, crushed by terror, it was reborn as a monster. Thus emerged a creature that absorbs human panic and returns it as predatory power.
Its fangs are the forest’s frozen tears.
Its fur is the mist that has taken the shape of a beast overnight.
Its mouth is the door through which all suppressed and unspoken emotions escape.
Folklore says: “Where the Hare runs, the truth breaks out.” It’s a spirit that reveals what people are afraid to see in themselves.
CARD MEANING
UPRIGHT POSITION
Short meaning:
Fear, revelation of truth, the need to face the shadow.
Sudden rapid changes, instincts, awakening of protective power.
Extended meaning:
This card signals a moment when hiding is no longer possible. What you have long pushed aside returns — sharp, intense, and relentless. The Hare in the upright position requires confronting your inner predators: fears, complexes, and traumas you have hidden.
It provides breakthrough energy — harsh, but honest.
It exposes lies — both others’ and your own.
It symbolizes instincts that save you when the mind hesitates.
In practical matters, the card predicts sudden events, rapid decisions, and the need for immediate action.
REVERSED POSITION
Short meaning:
Paralysis by fear, flight, self-deception, loss of control.
Extended meaning:
It warns that your fears have become stronger than you. This is a moment when the shadow controls your actions, and panic distorts reality. The card indicates fleeing from the brave, an unwillingness to see the truth, and postponing a looming conflict.
It can also signal destructive impulses — aggression directed at oneself or loved ones.
Sometimes — dependence on someone else’s will, loss of voice, or resistance.
However, the reversed Hare isn’t the end. It’s a warning to regain control: suppress not yourself, but your own panicked noise. Avoid panic and strive to reclaim control.
